Philip Keith

Phil Keiith was born in Springfield, where he spent his early years before moving to East Longmeadow and graduating from ELHS. He was very active in high school, participating in As Schools Match Wits, the track team, and student government, among other activities.

After graduation from Harvard, Phil was commissioned in the Navy and served three stints in Vietnam, earning two Purple Hearts and several other medals. He retired as a captain after 25 years in the military. His first civilian careers were in business and as a teacher. After that, he began writing books, several of which were based on his military experiences. He also wrote novels. His work received many commendations, and Phil became a well-known name in the writing field and as a newspaper columnist.

Phil married Sue Gibney, ELHS 63, with whom he had triplet daughters, Jennifer, Adria, and Tracy. He had a son, Pierce, from a later marriage. He is survived by his four children and his longtime partner, Laura Lyons.
